Location: Typerberg Hospital, Parow
SAISC Steel Awards Citation earned:
Commendation: Architecturally exposed steelwork.
The architecture of the BMRI is characterized by seamless integration of form and function.
The project originated from the need to refurbish the existing FISAN (Physiology and Anatomy) building. This resulted in a comprehensive and multifaceted and multi phased – 5 years in planning and 4 years in construction.
Its exterior features a blend of modernist and contemporary design elements, with clean lines, expansive glass facades, and a harmonious combination of concrete, steel and glass.
Colorplus® was extensively used not only as roofing substrate, but also as unprofiled flat steel plating for the metal clad fridge panels.
