The JT Ross Northfields project, located on former sugarcane lands in KwaZulu- Natal, South Africa, shows just how steel can be used to reshape landscapes.

Close collaboration between architect and engineers was the hallmark of this project, resulting in an inspiring design and project execution. The project, backed by JT Ross Properties, encompasses an impressive 166 000 m² of adaptable space, housing a diverse range of purpose-driven buildings with longevity and sustainability as the aim of the project design. The space inside was optimised by leveraging optimal spans inside resulting in expansive spaces with structural stability.

The steelwork used enabled accelerated timelines and enhanced structural stability. As the site is close to the sea, the choice of AZ200 was a wise one, aimed at longevity of roofing and wall cladding.

Amidst the technical triumphs, the project’s steel utilisation significantly impacted the local economy acting as a catalyst for economic expansion in the region.

The JT Ross Northfields project raises the bar for construction, showing how blending architectural vision and engineering expertise can shape landscapes and improve communities.
